Meagan Samele

Lead Trainer-Co Owner

Ever since she was a little girl, Meagan has always had an appreciation for animals. She grew up with a wide variety of animals and was involved in programs like 4-H and FFA. She showed her family Dog Taffy in 4-H before her parents agreed to let her get her heart dog; Abby. Her and Abby went on countless adventures together and showed in both AKC and ASCA obedience and rally trials. She has always been interested in dog behavior and understanding why they do certain things. She went from learning about her family dogs to working at a golden retriever breeder, to working in a doggy daycare & boarding/training facility.

Meagan received her bachelor's degree in Animal & Poultry Sciences at Virginia Tech with an emphasis in Companion/Lab animals as well as livestock. Through her time at school she has gained bast knowledge while working under her professor to conduct research in shelter dogs while also taking classes in applied animal behavior. During her time as a research assistant, she traveled extensively around the country to work on a nationwide study hoping to decrease the stress levels of shelter dogs and increase the rate of adoption. Meagan currently has 4 dogs. Her oldest is a 12 year old Shetland Sheepdog that she rescued named Charles, then she has her 9 year old Boxer/Pit mix she rescued named Molly. The two younger ones are a client surrender who is a 4 year old Pit mix named Stella and her youngest, a Shetland Sheepdog named Flynn. All 4 of these dogs have a large range in their personalities and have taught her more than she could ever imagine. Sign up for training and you'll have the opportunity to meet them!

Meagan loves her work as a professional dog trainer and that's what prompted her to open The Dog People. She enjoys seeing the bond grow between owners and their pets as they work together to reach their training goals!

About Us

At The Dog People, our singular mission is to empower you and your dog with the essential tools and knowledge for a harmonious life together. We often liken this journey to building a house – while decorating may seem like the exciting part, it's crucial to establish a solid foundation first. When a new dog joins us, we begin from the ground up, assessing their current training level and starting with the fundamentals. Whether your dog is a blank slate or has some prior training, we focus on laying the groundwork before progressing to advanced skills like off-leash control.
